Introduction
The Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts will be a 43,000 square foot multi-use cultural facility located on 1.5 acres of land directly on Yonge Street in the heart of Richmond Hill's downtown core.
The Centre will provide a home for Richmond Hill's diverse arts community, create a destination in the downtown core, and be a major venue to bring Canadian and international performing and visual arts to Richmond Hill and York Region.
Locating the Centre for the Performing Arts at the corner of Yonge and Wright Streets will add to the vitality of the downtown, support local shops and restaurants and stimulate further quality developments and improvements along Yonge Street. In Ontario, the communities of Port Hope, Orangeville and Kingston have put new theatres in the downtown area or restored older theatres to assist in urban redevelopment.
The Town of Richmond Hill has already committed $12.1 million, in cash and land value, to build the $30 million Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts.
World renowned architect, Jack Diamond, and his firm Diamond and Schmitt Architects Inc., have been retained to design the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts.
